It’s been a busy month, with lots of the magazine fashion shoots I love – they’re so creative and fun, and they keep me up with the trends!
Jonny Engstrom, our cutting director and salon director, is also much in demand in the fashion industry and works with designers at London Fashion Week every year.
This year, he was working on the collection of designer Bora Aksu. Known for his dreamy romanticism, Aksu kicked off the week by looking at 14th-century Renaissance Europe and reimagining it with contemporary flair to create a lighthearted collection using a palette of navy, buttercream and dusty pink.
Jonny complemented his fabulous creations with a look reminiscent of the 60s, curling the hair with irons and then scrunchdrying it.
Our award-winning Swedish director has worked with us since 1997. He is a firm favourite with designers and fashion and beauty editors, and he regularly styles hair for national magazines and catwalks.
He has worked with designers to create Selfridges’ window displays, and teaches advanced hairdressing for L’Oreal Professionnel.
Jonny and I are lucky to have many celebrity clients, many of whom have become friends. I have just visited Dire Straits bass guitarist John Illsley at his home, where he told me about his show at the Theatre Royal this month. An Evening with John Illsley will see him sharing stories of the life and times of Dire Straits – and he’ll have a smart new haircut on stage!
He very kindly gave me a signed copy of his new album VIII. He is such a nice man, so down to earth and friendly. I always enjoy his company.
I would like to end by saying that, as the terrible situation in Ukraine continues, I am thinking of all those suffering and am praying for my friends at the L’Oreal Academy who once kindly hosted me for a show and seminar in Kyiv.
