Winchester’s celebrity hairdresser Guy Kremer welcomes back clients and friends after the salon’s longest ever closure, treats NHS frontline.

"Smart new screens, disposable equipment and PPE enable us to maintain good distance and working practices" - Guy Kremer

As you read this, we will have opened our doors again after the longest closure in the salon’s history. It has been a frustrating, frightening time, and we are conscious that we are all returning to a new kind of “normal”. We have had clients in their hundreds clamouring for appointments and we have done our very best to accommodate them all – we are delighted that so many of you have missed us as much as we’ve missed you, and I will be working full time for a while to see as many people as I possibly can.

We thought through our salon refurbishments very thoroughly in both Winchester and Lymington, and are confident that we have done everything possible to protect both our clients and our staff.

In Winchester, we are very lucky to have 2,000sq ft of space and a lovely courtyard at the front of the salon. Smart new screens, disposable equipment and PPE enable us to maintain good distance and working practices at all times, and of course there is the usual warm and friendly welcome – but sadly not our customary kisses on each cheek!

On the first weekend after we opened, we were delighted to show our appreciation to our frontline NHS staff by offering them free treatments and cuts, and a celebratory socially-distanced party in the courtyard.

Afternoon tea treats were provided by Lucy Townsend from The Greyhound in Stockbridge, and there were other delicious treats from Peter at Greens Bar & Kitchen in Winchester, and Shah at the newly-opened Tiger Thai restaurant at The Roebuck on Stockbridge Road.

It is such a pleasure to be back at work, but Jonny and I were both able to keep our hands in during lockdown by taking part in Instagram interviews with India’s top stylist Aalim Hakim, the favourite of many Bollywood stars. I was gobsmacked to see my interview was viewed by 9,000 people!

At home, I have loved being able to see friends – even from a distance – with birthday gatherings for friends and events planned for my glorious garden, including a fabulous fashion shoot for a London magazine. I will also be collaborating with a top wig maker – watch this space for more details!
