Here I am, now aged 70! I can hardly believe it. I went home to my beautiful house in France to celebrate in the garden surrounded by life-long friends from around the world.
I was so lucky to be joined by the wonderful hairdresser Trevor Sorbie, the fashion designer Maria Grachvogel, Storm founder Sarah Doukas, friends and neighbours, and so many people I love who have been with me through my journey over the last seven decades.
We feasted on my favourite dishes of lobster and lamb, and the fabulous chocolate and praline cake was made by a local patisserie. It was all as close to casual as I can get, which will make everyone who knows me laugh!
The famous musician and record producer Bally Sagoo took charge of the music and we danced the night away under the stars. Everyone was in white, which reflected the fact we are all the same and also brought a stylish, summery St Tropez vibe.
There were lovely, humbling speeches about my life and career, and it was so good to reflect on all that has happened over the years with the people I have grown so close to along the way.
Back at home, I was thrilled to see my name in Vogue’s coverage of the magical Italian wedding of Genevieve Garner and Guiseppe Pignatti Morano, where I styled the beautiful bride’s hair.
Talking of magical, I also caught up with the actress Geraldine Somerville, of Harry Potter and Gosford Park fame when she came to the salon to have her hair done. I met her at a dinner party some years ago, and she has been coming to me ever since.
As we speak, I am on my way to London to do a fashion shoot for Fabulous magazine. I love my sessions with them – working with a young, fun team keeps me up to date with all the latest trends and helps keep me young, too – even more important now I’m 70!
