"I was so honoured and humbled to receive the President’s Award at the Fellowship for British Hairdressing’s Hair Awards 2022" - Guy Kremer

I was so honoured and humbled to receive the President’s Award at the Fellowship for British Hairdressing’s Hair Awards 2022.

We had a fabulous lunch in London for the awards ceremony, and I caught up with many of my talented friends. To win the President’s Award was such a shock and so overwhelming. This amazing industry is my love and passion, so this really does mean a great deal to me.

By the time you read this, I will have had my operation and be recuperating at home. Before I went to hospital, I was booked to go on a Caribbean cruise – the holiday of a lifetime that had been rolled over twice due to Covid. I was in the mood to make the best of it – and as we were on a superyacht that was part of the Ritz Carlton collection, that wasn’t too difficult!

Every day was a highlight as we travelled around the beautiful Grenadines in the Caribbean. We started with a week on Barbados, where we enjoyed delicious food at the Coral Reef Club, The Cliff, and the Lone Star, which became my favourite. It had a lovely, relaxed style and was right on the beach. We also loved the Sea Shed, which had fabulous food and a great atmosphere with live music.

Our five days on the yacht were wonderful, and we sailed to Mustique, Saint Vincent, Grenada, and Bequia. We tried the mud baths in St Lucia – which were fun but a bit too mucky for my liking – and on Grenada I was shown by a wonderful local lady how to weave intricate hair braids, and I loved trying it for myself. You never stop learning new things, even at my age and with all my experience!

On Saint Vincent, we were very lucky to visit Soho House Canouan, which sits on the island’s Grand Bay. I was very honoured to be booked in there by Soho House founder Nick Jones himself, and we were treated like royalty – it was the crowning glory of the holiday.

The trip was even more that I hoped it would be. I made good friends and we had everything we could have wanted – it was the first time in my life I have ever had to say no to Champagne, as there was so much of it!

It was just what I needed before I came back to reality, especially as – in view of the circumstances – I had to cancel our courtyard party at Christmas.

But I plan to celebrate a fresh start and better times ahead in the new year, and I will look forward to seeing everyone then.
